How do we choose which vehicles to buy?!
Most people only see the finished result — quality recycled OEM parts on our shelves, ready to keep their repairs moving. But what happens before those parts get to you?! At Chuck’s, choosing which vehicles to purchase for dismantling isn’t left to chance. Behind the scenes, we rely on smart decision-making and industry-leading technology to ensure the parts you need are available when you need them most!
One of the most powerful tools in our process is Bid Buddy — a system we utilize to help us make the most educated buying decisions possible, before we ever make a purchase.
Why Vehicle Selection Matters
Not every vehicle is worth buying. Some do not have parts that our customers need, others may not deliver good value for our customers. That is why vehicle selection is one of the most important steps in the recycling process. As we like to say, our vehicles need to earn a spot in our Inventory.
By purchasing strategically, we can procure vehicles that have parts that are most requested for, and ensure we have the right vehicles in stock according to your demands. Every Quote that you place at Chuck’s is saved to help build a database of requests and part prices that allow us to create a fair market value for the vehicle being assessed.
At Chuck’s, our mission is to give you the right parts the first time — and that starts with buying the right vehicles.
What is Bid Buddy?
Bid Buddy is a cutting-edge, data-driven tool designed specifically for the automotive recycling industry. It allows us to take the guesswork out of purchasing by analyzing numerous metrics such as Part search history, Interchangeable parts, mileage, type of damage to the vehicle, and demand. Each vehicle listed at the auction being reviewed has the VIN, mileage and type of damaged listed and analyzed in the Bid Buddy software. Vehicles that our customers request a purchase quote are also treated with the same care.
From this point, the Bid Buddy program will process each and every VIN at the selected auction and run it through a proprietary algorithm to help assess the vehicle. Each part on every vehicle is assigned a price value based on the historical data received from our yard management system. This collection of data, based on the condition, price, and demand of the part, all comes together to give a calculated maximum bid amount for that vehicle.
Current and future demand for specific parts
- Resale potential and overall market trends
- Part condition and demand data compared to the current inventory
- Profitability forecasts based on real customer data
With this information, our buyers can confidently decide whether a vehicle is worth investing in — ensuring we only bring in the best inventory for our customers.
How Chuck’s Uses Bid Buddy
Here’s a quick look at how the process works:
- Vehicle information is automatically downloaded from Insurance auction websites.
- The system analyzes part demand, part values, and interchange options.
- Bid Buddy provides a clear forecast of the vehicle’s potential value at auction and individual Parts listings.
- Chuck’s makes an informed purchasing decision.
This approach allows us to stay one step ahead — stocking high-demand parts before you even realize you will need them.
